Science Day Out

Spring break was good (not great).
I'm still over here piled under a lot of National Board writing and chores (and I have a long way to go).   I promised the kids one more day out.  Are we the only ones that love kid museums?
my baby boy

We had a very (educational) blast.

Sorry for another picture walk.  When you have been writing papers like I have, there is no room for creativity.

Trading Tablets for Trails

Today was such a great day.
We had no television, no tablets, and no technologies.
For us it was the wide open outdoors and a visit to my friend's (Mrs. A) new Horse Ranch!

I will admit that being around animals is soooo not my favorite,
but boy did the kids have fun (and so did Mrs. E. who we brought along).

Gal Pals (all 4)

Forgive the picture overload but the day was too perfect not to capture.  Would you believe I got these on my phone!?!
Enjoy the Picture Walk-

But first, this is a small video walk!
I think I got some great ones.  💕

Gorgeous Stables
(like out of a movie)

My Lil' Natural Beauty

While she was timid at first,
Mrs. A. and her daughters were truly the most gifted horse teachers and made her feel at ease.

The Best Horse Teacher EVA

Picnic Lunch

Horse Prep

Mrs. A. taught us all about the care and keeping of the horses (and the parts of equipment) before we rode out.
I mean I could always tell you about the difference in a European and Western bag (but now I can tell you the difference in the saddles).

Riding Lesson #1

I was scared of these large horses at first (as in don't put my babies on those things).

They were truly the most loving and kind spirited animals.  By the end of the session, even I wanted a pony!

All three of the horses were beautiful.
They had the best names (which I will keep private for them).

This is what we like to see children doing-
working, loving, growing, moving,
in all of God's Bounty!!

Connor loved the horses but he really is comfortable around all animals (and reptiles).

A little hoof cream.
C. became more and more comfortable
(perhaps she thought she was painting their nails?)

Thank you Mrs. A. for allowing us a little piece of your heaven!
It was the best.

Working Mom in Session....

My day started at 4:15am.
Shower and Coffee
(strong enough to wake Cleopatra VII Philopator)
enter three IEP goals and present performances
(total time 40 minutes) and pray that no one thinks I am a functioning alcoholic because
I. am. tired.

get kids up
finished getting ready
fix kids breakfast
see a birthday party Facebook invite
I write it on my hand because I forgot my calendar....

drive to school
drop kids
7:30:  rush to replace the 6 of the 12 national board artifacts
(I thought I was finished with)
It is time to administer a math test.
no one is feeling it
I try to encourage.
some kids take 90 minutes for 15 problems
(they have dreams of break too)
I pull another student to finish a reading
assessment we started last week.  He works so hard
and shows growth (but will it show on test day?)
I have to leave at 1:30 to take Connor home because
no one can get him before I leave for another meeting.

2:00: Party at Carlee’s school
I get there 15 minutes early (and try to fill out a summary on another student).
I don’t get far but the principal provides me with another artifact for my NB product (yay)!

class party about 8 minutes late
Prior I meet with a tiny, little boy who told me about 'getting in trouble' because 'he lost it' ....
I so relate.  I think I am 'lost-ing it too'.

Carlee and I leave early, so I can go to a meeting at the Intermediate School - 3 schools in one hour.
I call in a favor with the school psychologist.
She takes care of Car-Car for 90 full minutes while I do a phone conference with a parent (she is the BOMBbbbb).
women helping women- thank you!
I’m feeling a bit scattered in the meeting
(allergy pills and caffeine)
How many times do I think to myself-
'I should NOT have said that'
I don't know how productive we are but ...
finally time to go home!!

Carlee wants to dye eggs but no time.
tonight Connor has scriptures
we review
He is in the '13 year old' mood…
I try to be patient.
I correct three words and he gets offended
(but even with dyslexia we can’t use the word ‘disabled’ for ‘disciples’)
I reassure him that even if he reads a word wrong, no one will care and to keep going with confidence.
lucky- speaking in front of people does not bother him
6:00pm:  Darren comes home and gets the kids soup.
I eat a chocolate bunny a student gave me for dinner (Dove Chocolate).
Carlee is mad that we make her change out of her booty shorts
I text my director a random thought I had about our meeting.

We go to church.
We get there 15 minutes early and I’m like AwESoMe!
Then….
Connor says ‘I’m suppose to wear black.  I forgot.’
I realize he is in teal blue with a streak of dirt down his face.
Darren takes the kids.
I hit the road.
I pull black pants, a black NC State shirt, a black Adidas shirt, and a black Carolina Panthers shirt out of his closet and jump the steps to get back.
Connor is standing in the parking lot alone twisting his fingers and waiting.
(so my child- worried he has messed up)
His dirt streak is gone.
He switches out into black Adidas in the parking lot.
I park.
I text a teacher about a student on my way through the doors (and hope I don’t trip and break important body parts).
Church has started and it is dark.
I try very hard to focus on the beautiful scriptures of redemption but my mind is driftingggggg
Darren notices that Connor is moving back and forth in the front of the church in a fidget (nervous energy).
I stop bouncing my own leg up and down when he mentions it (nervous energy).
Connor misses the cue from the preacher to wait.
No matter, he reads well and the music on the piano was a lovely complement.
all the young speakers do so great
so sweet

The impact of the evening dawns on me and how unworthy I am…
Christ takes us out of the shadows.
Carlee says she is thirsty when I am reflecting.
(sigh)
5 minutes, I say.
pout
After, I inform Connor he has to stay for another short practice...
not happy w/ a “DARN IT”.
If I do anything in this world,
it will be to teach my kids to keep a “DARN IT” commitment.
I tell Darren to talk to him about appropriate response.
We debate who will stay and who will go
when,
he decides to stay because he has a small thing to do.
(yesssss)
8:30pm:  Carlee and I go home and she wants me to draw a dog.
it looks like a chicken, she says
She makes me pinky promise we can dye eggs and hide them in the morning (and then asks another 1, 000, 002 times for confirmation).

9:00pm:  Darren wonders why I’m laying in the bed like I need life alert

(hmmm).
And at last.
It is Spring Break.

hope
renewal
and new life
