Book Unit #1

My goal is to carry us through four book units this summer.
Seeing as how we should be on our third book and we only just finished our first, I think maybe I was overshooting.
I'm always surprised at how busy summer can get, but we will continue keep turning those pages despite the many wonderful distractions of summer.

Book Unit #1
Flat Stanley

Connor gives this book an 'ok' (out of good, bad, ok) because "it didn't have the action I was thinking it would have".

We each decorated our Flat Stanley.

Then we decided to mail him out, like the in the story, to the cousins.

We each wrote a letter.

Of course, Flat Stanley took a few pictures in his travels.

NC

South Carolina

Atlanta, Georgia

Alabama

Florida

Connor loves learning about the states so we made a soap dough map detailing the longest rivers, the Great Plains, the Rocky and Appalachian Mountains.
(C. feels safer with our Appy Mountains blocking most tornadoes.)

In the story Flat Stanley's brother takes Stanley out as a kite.
Since, we just finished watching Jurassic World  (rating it as good because it had all the action) and Aunt S. gave us this kite, we thought it would be fun to fly Stanley in the mouth of the beast.

We gave it a go....

but the wind was not cooperating.

Thanks for the fun times anyway Flat Stanley!

"Shame on them," Mrs. Lambchop said. "It is wrong to dislike people for their shapes. Or their religion, for that matter, or the color of their skin."

"I know," Stanley said.  "Only maybe it's impossible for everybody to like everybody."

"Perhaps," said Mrs. Lambchop. "But they can try."
